Since 1993, All Things Acoustic has covered most of Alabama and all of the Internet with lots of kilowatts of acousticity — Friday nights, 8:00-10:00 p.m., Central Time. Your host is Jeremy Butler.
Listen live Friday nights. What was the last song we played? Why, it was "Please Don't Hand Me Your Baby," by Christine Lavin.
Bathe in our acoustic goodness live on Friday nights. Wake up your Amazon Echo or other smart speaker than command it to "play Alabama Public Radio." Find the APR station nearest you!
During 2022 we will be featuring Janis Ian's composition, "Better Times Will Come." It's a song she wrote in April 2020 in the depths of the COVID-19 pandemic and in the wake of John Prine's death. She then released it out into the wild—encouraging anyone and everyone to record it. Thus, the Better Times Project was born and soon dozens of recordings were posted to Janis Ian's Website.
Our plan at ATA is to start the show with a new version each week and even then we won't be able to get to all of them! The ATA staff encourages you to check out more of the recordings in the "Better Times" online jukebox. Moreover, you'll find lyrics and chord charts for the song online. We hope you'll be inspired to record you own version!
You'll find Janis Ian's first, unadorned, recorded-on-her-phone version below.
